Nicola Sturgeon said: “We expect to lift restrictions on travel to and from England and Wales on 26 April – something which I know will be welcomed by many individuals, and also by the tourism sector.”

But the first minister played down the reopening of large-scale tourism, saying that “international travel remains a significant risk.”

She added: “It may be the case that we have to endure restrictions on international travel for a bit longer, as the price we pay for much greater normality here in Scotland.”

It’s worth noting that some of the Scottish islands, including Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles, are still under the country’s level three restrictions, meaning people are still not allowed to go on holiday there.
