Carlo Ancelotti is being linked with Arsenal after being sacked as Napoli boss – but less than two weeks ago he laughed off speculation he could become the Gunners’ new manager.
The 60-year-old is also a target for Everton , who are reportedly set to talk to him in the coming days after sacking manager Marco Silva last week.
Ancelotti was relieved of his duties by Napoli despite leading the Serie A club into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 4-0 win over Genk on Tuesday.
Prior to that, Napoli had been on a nine-game winless run in both Serie A and the Champions League.
There were rumours Ancelotti would leave the club for another job, amid conflict between players, fans and owners at Napoli.
But when it was put to him nearly two weeks ago that he could replace Emery as Arsenal manager, Ancelotti laughed off the speculation.
“I stay with Napoli, of course,” Ancelotti told BT Sport.
“These are rumours! I have white hair and experience.
“In this moment they are all rumours.”
Ancelotti has won the Champions League three times, as well as league titles in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. He was in the frame to take the Arsenal job after the departure of Arsene Wenger in 2018.
But he was overlooked as the club opted to give the job to Emery.
Reports in Italy suggested he has “not forgotten” about that snub, which saw him eventually take on the job at Napoli instead.
The Italian club have been blighted by in-fighting this season, and are currently sitting seventh in the Serie A table with 21 points from 15 games.
AC Milan Gennaro Gattuso has been tipped to be Napoli’s next manager.
