Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the gained 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:), which rose 8.95% or 0.73 points to trade at 8.89 at the close. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:) added 7.09% or 0.36 points to end at 5.44 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:) was up 7.18% or 3.51 points to 52.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Martinrea International Inc . (TSX:), which lost 11.84% or 1.80 points to trade at 13.40 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:) declined 7.58% or 1.600 points to end at 19.520 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:) shed 7.30% or 2.19 points to 27.81.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 541 to 487 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.27% or 4.55 to $1696.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.54% or 2.26 to hit $66.09 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.91% or 2.61 to trade at $69.35 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.06% to 0.7897, while CAD/EUR rose 0.54% to 0.6630.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 92.002.
