Brazil physio reveals Alisson return date as Liverpool get injury boost

Liverpool’s clash with Sheffield United on Saturday may come just too soon for Alisson Becker, though the Brazilian goalkeeper is closing in on a return to full fitness.

The 28-year-old picked up a shoulder injury at the end of last month, forcing him out of Liverpool’s last two Premier League matches: the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa and last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Everton.

Liverpool have been dealt several injury blows recently, with Virgil van Dijk suffering a season-ending injury after a rash challenge from Jordan Pickford and Thiago also picking up a knock.

But, in better news for the Premier League champions, Alisson is closing in on a return and has even been included in Brazil’s squad for next month’s internationals, with the Selecao revealing that he is slated to return against West Ham next week.

‘Alisson had a shoulder injury on September 30, a trauma. An athlete from his own team fell on his shoulder,’ explained Brazil physio Fabio Mahseredjian.

‘And on October 15 he was back for training sessions. Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar [Brazil Chief Medical Officer], in contact with Liverpool’s medical department, gave us a heads up by saying that Alisson would probably be available to Klopp, to Liverpool’s technical staff, on October 31.

‘He would have three games before joining the Brazil team.’

That diagnoses means Alisson will also miss the midweek Champions League clash against Midtjylland but will be able to take on West Ham, Atalanta and Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp was coy on whether Alisson, Thiago and Joel Matip would be involved on Saturday, saying: ‘I don’t know. We have training after the press conference, so we will see who is out there. You can only be in contention if you are in training.

‘Look, in my situation, I don’t want to rule anybody out until someone tells me and so far, nobody told me. Maybe I should have listened better!

‘But for me, everybody apart from the three I mentioned are in contention until somebody tells me different.’
