Bill Gates, PM Narendra Modi discuss AI, women-led development and DPI


Microsoft cofounder and former chief executive officer Bill Gates on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed artificial intelligence for public good, digital public infrastructure and women-led development, among other things.

“It is always inspiring to meet with @narendramodi and there was a lot to discuss. We talked about AI for public good; DPI; women-led development; innovation in agriculture, health, and climate adaptation; and how we can take lessons from India to the world,” Gates said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Modi, too, said the meeting was wonderful. “Always a delight to discuss sectors which will make our planet better and empower millions of people across the globe,” the PM said on X.

On Wednesday, Gates, who is also the co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said the foundation is proud to partner with India’s unique effort in promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality with the Alliance for Global Good – Gender Equity and Equality.The alliance was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year and its logo and website were unveiled in Delhi on Wednesday. The Gates Foundation was an early partner in the alliance.

“The alliance focuses on issues of gender health, education, and enterprise. All of them are very important to equitable development,” Gates said in the national capital on Wednesday.Gates said the initiative began with India’s “very successful” G20 and that rapid progress can be made on these issues, with the government, private sector, and the foundation’s resources coming together.
