White impressed on loan at Leeds last season as they earned promotion to the Premier League and returned to the Seagulls in the summer, going straight into Potter’s starting XI.
The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for Brighton so far this season and his form and attributes have caught the eye of several top teams ahead of the January transfer window.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with White after losing talisman Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries.
But Potter was in a relaxed mood as he was pressed on the interest White is generating.
“He is a level-headed guy and he wants to play football at the very highest level,” Potter said.
“He gets down with his work. He was totally professional in the summer, despite the noise outside which you cannot control.
“He is a smart guy. We will try to help him enjoy his football as that is the most important thing.”

Meanwhile, Potter has hailed Danny Welbeck following the England striker’s strong start to life at the Amex.
“Danny has a lot to prove. It’s no secret he could have taken a different decision than to come to Brighton that would have been slightly easier for him,” Potter said.
“But he wanted to take the challenge of proving himself in the Premier League and taking an opportunity at a club like us. That says a lot about him.
“That’s where he’s at, he doesn’t want to hang up his boots or feel like he’s on the way down. He’s got a lot to offer still and we see that every day in training. Since he’s come in, he’s been fantastic.
“It looks like he’s enjoying his football, he wants to play, to score, to help the team. It’s our job to keep that going.”
