Barber Falls Victim to Facebook Scam, Loses $2,400

A Ladyville barber was reportedly scammed out of $2,400 on Facebook. 28-year-old Christopher Latchman reported to Police Authorities that on Sunday, while he was scrolling on Facebook, he came across a post made by “Ginely Hernandez” where she was selling an iPhone 14 ProMax for $2100. Latchman communicated with Hernandez via Facebook, where he was told that her boyfriend Marcelo Novelo has an iPhone 15 pro max on sale for $2400 and that Latchman would need to secure the cellphone by depositing the total $2400 to his bank account, and that after making the payment, the phone would be shipped via Tropic Air. On Monday, Latchman’s coworker deposited $200 via his personal Atlantic Bank account to an Atlantic bank account under the name Marcelo Novelo and Latchman deposited $2,200 via his online bank account to the same account. According to Latchman, Novelo acknowledged receipt of both deposits and blocked Latchman shortly after. Latchman reported that he has not received the iPhone 15, nor has he gotten back his money.
