State pension aged people can receive attendance allowance so long as they have a condition severe enough that results in them needing to have someone look after them. It is paid at two different rates and how much a person gets depends on how much care is required.

The DWP confirmed all benefit reviews going forward will be carried out by telephone rather than by a home visit.

This concerns all benefits except for Universal Credit.

Further developments and updates will be published when 2020 to 2021 estimates are released in May 2021.

To make an initial claim for attendance allowance, a specific form will need to be completed.

An attendance allowance claim form will need to be completed and posted to the Government.

A designated attendance allowance helpline can be called for a copy of the form or for alternative formats such as braille.

Attendance allowance payments can be backdated to the date of the claim, which is usually the date the form is received or the date the claimant calls the enquiry line.

Those who receive attendance allowance may also receive extra pension credit, housing benefit or reduced council tax bills.

Following an application, claimants will need to keep an eye on their circumstances as if they change, it could impact how much is paid out.

This should be noted carefully as a claimant could be taken to court or have to pay a penalty if they give wrong information.

Additionally, if a person is overpaid they will need to report it to the Government.
