AT Deals: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB Now $180 for First Time – AnandTech

Samsung’s 980 PRO 1TB SSD has dropped to a new all-time low price at Amazon. It’s been priced around $200, as of late, but today users can purchase it for just $180. This price is a tad steep for a 1TB SSD but the difference here is mainly due to its PCIe 4.0 interface support and high-speed performance.

The Samsung 980 PRO comes in a variety of sizes ranging from as little as 250GB up to 2TB. However, today’s offer from Amazon is only for the 1TB version.

The Samsung 980 PRO SSD family is Samsung’s flagship line of consumer SSDs. According to the official specifications from Samsung, the 1TB version is capable of reaching read/write speeds as fast as 7000/5000 MB/s.

To get the most performance-wise out of the 980 PRO, a PCIe 4.0 interface is necessary. The drive is also backwards compatible with PCIe 3.0, however, this comes at the cost of lower peak read/write speeds.

The drive is supported by a proprietary, in-house controller from Samsung. Users can choose to take advantage of AES 256-bit encryption for an added layer of data protection.
