Asteroid news: NASA tracks space rock flying past the planet THIS WEEKEND


Because the asteroid will safely pass the Earth, there is absolutely no need to panic about a possible collision.

Interest in asteroids has grown exponentially in the past two decades.

This is primarily because of the evolving theory that an asteroid impact led to the demise of the dinosaurs.

And this is in tandem with growing scientific recognition of additional asteroid impact sites and other evidence of ancient impacts with Earth.

As a result of experts’ growing understanding about asteroids and the tiny yet still possible chance an asteroid could hit Earth, NASA has developed a department for planetary defence.
