Ashes 2019 England vs. Australia Test series: fixtures, dates, squads, betting odds, TV

Australia have confirmed their 17-man squad ahead of next week’s first Ashes Test match against England at Edgbaston.

The Baggy Greens, who hold the urn after their 4-0 win in the 2017-18 series, have named Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft in the squad. The trio were banned after the ball-tampering scandal in 2018.

Tim Paine will captain the Australians while fast bowlers James Pattinson and Peter Siddle are recalled and Josh Hazlewood returns from injury. Nathan Lyon is the only recognised spinner in the Australia squad.

National selector Trevor Hohns said: “David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft have forced their way back into the Test squad through the excellence of their recent performances.

“David and Steve also have the advantage of being proven players at Test level while Cameron has produced impressive numbers for county side Durham this season.”

England’s squad, captained by Joe Root, will be announced after the Test victory against Ireland.

After a poor opening day, England hit back in the warm-up Test by securing a 143-run win inside three days at Lord’s.

The first of five Ashes Test matches starts at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday 1 August.
