Arsenal star Reiss Nelson has given Mikel Arteta a ‘problem’ with performance against Liverpool, says Sol Campbell

Sol Campbell has reserved special praise for Reiss Nelson after Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Liverpool and claims the youngster has given Mikel Arteta a ‘problem’ ahead of the side’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City.

Nelson started Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Norwich earlier this month and will have been disappointed to only make the substitutes bench for the side’s north London derby defeat to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But the 20-year-old was recalled at the Emirates on Thursday evening and repaid his manager’s faith with an outstanding display versus the newly-crowned Premier League champions, helping set up Alexandre Lacazette’s opener before getting on the scoresheet himself to seal all three points for the Gunners.

It was Nelson’s first ever goal in the top flight and the England Under-20 international couldn’t hide his delight in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

‘You dream as a little boy and luckily to score against the big boys – so I’m happy with the results and with my goal,’ Nelson said.

‘When I get home I’ll celebrate with my family. I am delighted with the goal.

‘Looking at the second-half, the boss said to us to keep pressing and keep putting them under pressure.

‘That’s something we wanted to carry on and we did that really well. That’s how we got the first goal and we were eager to keep pressing them.’

Asked whether he had done enough to secure a starting sport for Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final against Pep Guardiola’s holders, Nelson replied: ‘Hopefully. Time will tell.

‘But I’m delighted with the goal.’

Former Arsenal defender Campbell believes Nelson has given Arteta a selection headache ahead of their trip to Wembley this weekend.

‘It’s always lovely to score the winner,’ Campbell said.

‘He’s a great lad, he’s waited for chances and he’s got a great chance and stuck it away even though he still had to do a lot with it.

‘That’s all you can do: score goals, play well.

‘Give the manager a problem and that’s what he’s doing, a good problem.

‘He’s saying, “I’m ready, I’m scoring and I want to be in the team” so it’s good to see a young player that wants it.’
