Arsenal want midfielder Matteo Guendouzi to sign a new five-year deal at the club after an impressive debut campaign at the club.

The 20-year-old moved to the Emirates from Lorient in a deal worth around £7.2m in 2018 but he’s valued at over £30m now following a strong first season with the Gunners.

Unai Emery was an admirer of Guendouzi as the Frenchman came through Paris Saint-Germain’s academy when the Spaniard was in France.

Guendouzi signed a four-year deal worth around £40,000-a-week last summer but the Gunners want him to sign a deal until 2024.

The midfielder stands to almost double his pay should he decide to sign the deal as Arsenal are willing to offer around £70,000-a-week to keep him at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Guendouzi’s current deal runs until 2022 so the club are under no pressure for him to sign an extension any time soon.

However, the Gunners are keen to avoid mistakes of the past in which the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have been allowed to run their contracts down.
