Emile Smith Rowe’s latest injury is not believed to be serious and he could even play in Arsenal’s next match this weekend.

After thrashing West Ham 6-0, Arsenal will have the chance to go top of the Premier League on Saturday when they travel to relegation threatened Burnley.

The Gunners were without several key stars for the statement win at the London Stadium due to injury and fitness issues, including Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Smith Rowe was also a surprise absentee having only recently returned to action after recovering from a knee injury.

Ahead of the game, Mikel Arteta revealed that the attacking midfielder had ‘rolled his ankle’ in training, leading to fears that he could be set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

It is said that he sustained the injury while trying to leap over a slide tackle during training last Thursday, landing awkwardly on his ankle.

He suffered some bruising and swelling but it is said the injury is not too serious and the 23-year-old won’t be in the treatment room for long.

In fact, Smith Rowe was keen to play through the pain at West Ham but was left out as a precaution and his ankle will now be monitored to see if it’ll be safe for him to play at Turf Moor.

This all comes at a crucial time of the season for Arsenal as they like to get ahead in the title race and progress in the Champions League.

Following the Burnley clash, the North Londoners travel to Porto for the first-leg of their round of 16 tie – their first UCL knockout game for seven years – before games against Newcastle, Sheffield United and Brentford.

As it stands, Arsenal are third in the Premier League, two points off Liverpool and only behind Manchester City on goals scored, though the Citizens have a game in hand.
