AFC Bournemouth make fresh approach for Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira

AFC Bournemouth have made another ambitious move for Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira in their search for a new manager.

Vieira who is alongside old Manchester United foe Roy Keane in the ITV studio during the European Championships was interviewed by the Cherries in February after Jason Tindall was sacked.

But in the end the south coast club appointed former Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate who was handed a short term contract which runs out at the end of this month.

A failure to win promotion back to the Premier League through the play-offs has dented Woodgate’s chances of seeing his stay at The Vitality Stadium extended.

That has led to talks with a number of managerial candidates including Vieira whose last job was with French side Nice.

Vieira impressed during his time under the Manchester City umbrella, first working in the Etihad academy before taking charge of New York City FC.

It’s believed he is ready for another challenge but would ideally like to manage in the Premier League.

But his former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has told him that he believes Bournemouth could be an ideal club to return to as a manager.

Bournemouth, desperate not to miss out on promotion next season, have also been contemplating an approach for Fulham boss Scott Parker.

Meanwhile Newcastle United’s experienced midfield Matt Ritchie is looking to move back to his old club. He was disappointed when a planned transfer back to the south coast collapsed during the January window.
