3rd man arrested in slaying of Moreno Valley boxer – Press-Enterprise


A third suspect has been arrested in the slaying of Moreno Valley boxer Daniel Gonzalez.

Joseph Lewis Goldsmith, 28, of Riverside, turned himself in at the Riverside County sheriff’s station in Moreno Valley on Monday, Sept. 21, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Goldsmith was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he was being held in lieu of $1 million bail, jail records show. He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday and has a status hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Lee Albert Mooring, 32, Andre Dimitri Richee, 27, both of Moreno Valley, were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder Sept. 9 and Sept. 10, respectively. Mooring pleaded not guilty on Sept. 15 and has a status hearing scheduled for Thursday. Richee is due to enter pleas on Thursday.

The shooting happened on Sept. 7 in the 22900 block of Allies Place in Moreno Valley. Investigators say the men drove up and shot Gonzalez and two teenagers. The two boys were expected to recover, investigators said.

A motive for the attack has not been disclosed.

Gonzalez, 22, was a welterweight who fought in boxing legend Floyd Mayweather’s stable. The victim won his professional debut in a four-round unanimous decision on Aug. 27, 2016, and won two fights by decision in 2016 and 2017.
