3.1 earthquake shakes parts of Riverside County – Press-Enterprise


A magnitude 3.1 earthquake shook parts of Riverside County on Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was reported at 8:26 p.m. a bit more than a mile south southwest of Valle Vista, a community east of Hemet, the USGS reported. Its depth was reported as being about 1.8 miles, the USGS said.

It was determined as being a level four quake, which the USGS defines as having moderate shaking with very light damage. As of about an afterwards, more than 200 people reported to the USGS as having felt the quake, according to the agency.

Reports of feeling the shaking came from areas including Hemet, Temecula, Perris and Wildomar, the USGS reported.

This was the second earthquake in Riverside County this week with a magnitude stronger than a 3.0.
