‘100 per cent the right decision’ – Roy Keane gives his verdict on Harry Kane’s disallowed goal against Chelsea

Roy Keane believes Harry Kane’s disallowed first-half goal against Chelsea was correctly ruled out by the referee.

Kane thought he had put Tottenham ahead during the first-half at Stamford Bridge but was judged to have pushed Thiago Silva moments before slotting past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Gary Neville, on co-commentary on Sky Sports, was adamant the goal should have stood, insisting ‘there is nothing in that at all’ after seeing Silva hit the deck.

But his former Manchester United teammate Keane disagreed, convinced referee Paul Tierney had made the right decision.

‘At the time I thought it was a good goal but he [Kane] does just lean into him and I think the referee has got it 100 per cent right,’ Keane said at half-time.

Asked if there was enough contact from Kane on Silva to warrant the Chelsea defender going down, he added: ‘I think when you are running at that pace, there is.

‘When you are 36, 37 you are going to go down.

‘When you are at that pace, a little touch is all you need.’

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admitted Silva perhaps went down easily but agreed with the decision to disallow the goal.

‘You can see he pushed him a little bit. I must say, what a finish, very calm, very Kane-like, but he does give him that little nudge and that was enough for Thiago to make a little bit more of it.’

Tottenham’s frustration was compounded with Chelsea taking a two goal lead within the first 15 minutes of the second-half with Hakim Ziyech and Silva on the score sheet.
